Hadn’t forgotten about this… promise…
Here’s *some* of the letter I sent into my boss’ (slightly blacked out in places)- this should hold you over just a bit til there’s more!
Subject: Update, Employment, and Leaving…
Good morning, Saj, Giri, and Misty…
My eight years of service within APV, Invensys, Powerware, and now Eaton have largely been fantastic years. Over the past year I’ve struggled to find a way to consider my new role within Eaton a home. Last year started with a bang with being a part of a great team migrating Powerware’s infrastructure to Eaton standards and being accepted into the very rare opportunity of Eaton Electrical’s Leadership program… however, the fun left quickly when the staff reorganization was complete. Being placed into a role that had absolutely nothing to do with my 100% infrastructure background was incredibly difficult for me.
Ending the year with what’s probably the worst review I’ve received and for the first time ever in my career I was left without a merit increase let me know that this was absolutely not the right place for me. As previously stated, I will not be returning to Eaton. I’m saddened to see that my background, skillset, and leadership potential could not find a home here.
Eaton is an unbelievably wonderful company – Eaton Electrical’s IT group is just not the right place for me. With my management being located out of Pittsburgh – I will leave the following with Misty Roohi, Raleigh onsite Manager:
- Raleigh Campus security badge
- Raleigh CRC security badge
- My office key
- Cellphone (blahblahblah)
- Laptop & associated accessories
- All SOX paperwork (will remain within the office & on the Raleigh Sharepoint)
blahblahblah. I hope the best for all of you and for all of the other Electrical & Corp IT employees. …some of whom are the very best assets that Eaton could have.
Best Regards,
-Carl CarpenterI will be available for any HR follow up conversations with my new contact information as follows:

So there’s a bit more of my “I quit” saga. I wasn’t TOO over the top was I? I wanted to be blunt yet professional… Hmmm… I hope I achieved that.
